Methanol Ten Year -2012
Global demand for methanol in 2002 is estimated at 30.2 million tonnes. Demand growth to 2012 for typical merchant methanol applications is forecasted to average 2.1% p.a., which will take volumes in 2012 to 37.0 million tonnes. An additional 12.6 million tonnes of methanol is forecast to be required for applications that are vertically integrated such as the production of dimethyl ether (DME) and olefins (the methanol-to-olefins, or MTO process), giving a total demand for methanol in 2012 of 49.6 million tonnes, a growth rate of 4.6 % p.a.
